Fishing Licenses

A fishing licenses is required by the State of Michigan for every angler 17 years of age and older. Yes, you still need a fishing license when on a charter boat. Licenses can be purchased at many retailers and over the internet.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) offers all types of licenses on their web site.

What type of license do you need?

Fishing licenses are available in three (3)  types:

  • An annual restricted fishing license is valid for all fishing  except salmon and trout.

  • An annual all species fishing license is valid for all fishing including salmon and trout.

  • A one day fishing license is valid for all fishing including salmon and trout.

Fishing licenses continue to be very reasonably priced in Michigan. The cost of your license depends on your classification, ie: resident or non-resident, senior, military, etc. The MDNR web site will show you all your options.

Licenses can be purchased online at http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/.
